Juarez Photos

From June 19-25, we went to Juarez, Mexico to build a house for a family there. Marco Antonio had injured his hand when a transmission fell on it at work (he’s a mechanic), and their oldest son, Jesus, who had graduated university with a degree in criminology, presumably to help support the family while working in law enforcement–something near and dear to our hearts as Randy has just finished 10 years on the Denver Sheriff’s Department, woke up one day and could not see or walk normally. He had a brain tumor. In the midst of hardship, they showed us hospitality, hope, perseverance, and even joy. Monica, the mother, also treated us to the best chicken mole ever at the end of the week.

When we left our job and home in Denver, we said our three words for the year are MUSIC, TRAVEL, AND SERVICE. The small home we built along with friends from Corona Presbyterian in Denver, is so that relatives can move close and help with Jesus’s growing health challenges. It is part of the SERVICE piece for us, but as often happens in cases like this, we leave changed for the better by them and their spirit, and are grateful to have had the chance to meet them and do this small thing for them. Here are a few photos from our time in Juarez.
