Onward!

ONWARD…

The HSE (Irish health system) has moved quickly to fix me up, and I’m told that surgery was a success. All signs point to a result of me being clear of cancer, though I still have a few treatments to go between now and the end of June.

For the remainder of treatment, I switch from St. Vincent to St. Luke. While St. Vincent was dedicated to serving the poor, St. Luke was a gospel writer and a...wait for it, DOCTOR. Fun facts.

I just need motion and something to say…

Given our recent great news, we have kicked into high gear to accomplish as much as we can over the next month before I start radiation. The main goals are recording unreleased songs and booking concerts.

A US summer house concert tour, though possibly a shorter one than planned, is scheduled for mid July through mid September. We hope to see lots of you then—specifically in Colorado, the Midwest, Texas, and parts of the East Coast.

If you’re in these areas and want to host, please contact us. Check out our House Concert FAQ for more details.

We’ve been waiting so long, for the first signs of spring
We’ve been waiting so long.
Now it’s coming back in everything.

A lyric written in the fall, but it feels like it was written for this month. Spring has sprung in Ireland and we are getting stuck in here in our new home.

A good outdoor drying day is a beautiful thing here in Ireland. No dryer!

We are studying for our driver’s license tests next month, and are learning new things every day about the different ways appliances and heating systems work.

We’ve had visits from some people back home, and look forward to a few more soon. This is allowing us to be tourists some of the time, and I’ve been hiking quite a bit to get back in shape after the surgery too.

My mom and brother came right after surgery to make sure I was ok. After a few days' rest for me, we took them up north to the Giant's Causeway!

The fields are yellow with gorse, or whins, or furze, depending on what you call this plant–gorgeous,  with its vibrant yellow flowers and prickly stems and greenery, so sharp you would never pick it or want to fall into it.

gorse.

Sometimes it is even used to hedge sheep in to keep them safely where they are supposed to be.  I have been thinking that this is not a bad mascot plant for our last 6 months.

We remain committed to our goals of music, travel, service—and are learning to be flexible in the way that plays out. The service of others has touched us deeply (and continues to do so) during this time of healing and uncertainty. (Some of you reading this know that we are talking about YOU.) We will be looking for another service project as soon as I get the final “all clear” from the doctors.

For now, we are very much looking forward to seeing the USA again soon!!!
